These boards are fully hot-wired and hand-shaped on Ellis's property on the Mid North Coast. Hot-wiring the blank allows Ellis to achieve the ultimate blank and rocker that match his boards. This extra process is very noticeable in the unique feel of the board under the arm and how dialed-in the hand shape is.
This board is a classic version of Ellis's Lite Kite models, measuring 6'2 x 21 x 2 3/4. It would be suited for a surfer looking for the Lite Kite design with some volume. It would make for a great paddler while still allowing you to rip through mushy waves as well as when the waves are pumping. This board has a khaki pigment deck, a dirty purple bottom, and comes with a set of Hanalei Quad fins.
From Ellis: "This batch is my latest work on Lite Kites and a continuation of Edge-Board pursuits, combined with a dive into the multi-fin universe. Mixing what I've learned from years of riding heavily edged surfboards with my background in performance surfing and the need to go vertical.
The shape consists of a heavily contoured nose entry that leads into two parabolic chine panels and a central concave from nose to tail. The chine panels create a forward 'Rail Vee' and a planning surface that transitions from convex to concave throughout the outline. This new 'Rail Vee' shape is a more passive version of true edge design, and its severity has been reduced to harmonize with the dominant Quad fins.
The undulating characteristics of this shape create a flattened central rocker line for speed and trim, while the rail line is elevated for manoeuvrability as the chine panels lift into the nose. In short, it’s a flatter board when riding trim, combined with the benefits of a more rockered board when on rail and through turns.
The quad set has an organic, sail-like shape template that features an aerofoil with an inside concave for extra laminar flow adhesion. I found this template to be a great complement to the Lite Kite design, and the initial speed generation has been unparalleled in my tests.
A domed 'S Deck' line places the majority of foam distribution between the rider's stances for paddleability, and the crowning of the deck gives the rider more leverage off the water's surface. Extra hidden foam under the back foot creates lift when depressed, providing a positive pushback feeling throughout turns. The dome rolls into a contemporary 'C' rail for performance and predictability when needed.
