Proudly certified B Corp

We are so stoked to announce Wild Things is officially certified as a B Corp!

Since we started back in 2012, our impact (on our community, our friends, and the environment) has always been front of mind. In the early days, Sydney Wild Things was almost more of an events space than a shop, with friendships and community at the centre of it all. From the (slightly unhinged) exhibitions and warehouse gigs back then, through to surf club and other local events in more recent years, our community has always been a driving force behind what we do.

As we have grown, we’ve always been conscious of our environmental impact — as a surfboard manufacturer, a brand, and a retailer. Surfboards in particular are a dirty, resource-heavy industry, but we have been chipping away at improving how we do things.

Our boards have always been made strong enough to live multiple lives, but we knew we could do more. We have developed an active trade-in program to keep used boards in circulation and have facilitated Australian trials of recyclable foam, both across our own production and with key peers in the industry. We proudly manufacture Lovemachine Surfboards within Australia, including the Pedestrian Ship model which was found to be the best of 11 Flax-laminated surfboards in STAB's electric acid test with Rasta. We support small makers and local businesses wherever we can, choose our materials carefully and design with intention. A big part of our strategy has been only making what we need and striving to ensure everything we do make transcends seasons and fast fashion cycles. We prioritise surfboard couriers that don't use packaging at all and have repurposed and recycled used materials to make new products ever since we started.

The B Corp certification process has helped us improve our systems and our structures too. This certification recognises the work we’ve been doing across our supply chain, materials, team, and operations to build a more responsible business.

What's a B Corp?
B Corp is both a global movement and an independently verified framework to formalise using business as a force for good — balancing people, planet and profit. As a B Corp, we are part of a global community of businesses that meet the highest standards of social and environmental impact. B Corp certification is not easy to achieve! It's only awarded to businesses that hold themselves genuinely (and transparently) accountable, and demonstrate excellence in five key pillars - governance, workers' rights, community, environment and customers.

Why Does it Matter?
Becoming a B Corp gives us a way to benchmark ourselves against some of the most responsible businesses in the world, and a framework to keep improving. It helps guide how we design, produce, and operate — and how we show up for our community and environment. Certification is reviewed every three years, so it’s not a finish line, but an ongoing commitment that keeps us accountable, asking better questions and doing better work.

We are very proud to be a part of the B Corp community and we're looking forward to improving our practices and our impact more over the years to come!
