Surf Club: June 24

Small but perfectly formed waves were on the menu for surf club number five this year, with a large turnout rolling up to Belongil on Saturday morning. This month it was time to experiment with the format, we realised we might get all the stragglers down to beach a bit quicker if we sorted out breakfast! The usual post-surf presentation BBQ was moved to the morning. It was a bit of a scramble getting the BBQ down the sandbags and onto the beach but it was worth it for an eggs & bacon fry up on the sand before hitting the water, Gabe from Postcard even brought some coffee and croissants along.

The comp commenced around 8:30-9am with the first Mens heat and although the waves were pretty micro but a perfect little righthander was reeling off down the sandbank, allowing for some great surfing. As always the competition is a focal point but its not really about that. Surf Club is really a social event, its all about having a day down the beach with friends. We were stoked to hear Maria from Atmosea declare that it was her favourite day of the month, and competition standout Maddie Gross agreed, saying Surf Club is her 'only guaranteed day of surfing each month' (in between juggling kids). You wouldn't know it, based on her surfing, Maddie pulled out some wild, levitating noserides that judges were calling the best of either division and the highest scoring wave of the day. Gabi managed to pip her with consistency in every heat, backing up for 3 wins in a row! All the girls surfed really well. Kai stood out in the mens all day but overall you could see everyone was having a ball, in every heat. It was a great day of surfing and lots of fun to watch.

Thanks to everyone who comes along and making this such an epic day each month ❤️ The next surf club (and final event for the season / presentation) we have a lot of crew away so we have decided to postpone it. Date TBC but looking like it wil be 2nd September!
