SURF CLUB: OCTOBER 27

Surf Club #5 kicked off in wobbly, weedy, wind-slop shorebreaks that didn't look too appealing to anyone at first, but as the wind swung offshore, little chocolate peaks started popping up all along the beach. The waves were breaking close to the shore and mostly pretty fast which made for some radical surfing. Girls and guys heats rotated one-for-one so that everyone got to enjoy the peak of the day's conditions.

By the time the finals rolled around, the combination of low tide and strong offshore wind was taking its toll. The swell had dropped considerably, but there were still some clean and contestable waves rolling in.

The men's final saw some great surfing. Ambrose (down from the goldy) surfed consistently all event and maxed out his wave score with a heap of great rides to finish 4th. First time entrant Wispy scored some long noserides, ripping every little left he could find to finish in 3rd. Kai Ellice-Flint, who got a tidy little switch cover up and wave of the day in an earlier heat, battled through after a heavy night to finish with an admirable 2nd place. However overall it was the ever-consistent Matt Sorro who took out the competition with some great positioning and super critical noserides.

The Ladies division was super competitive all day with a really close final. Julia picked off some of the best waves of the day to come in 4th, Cass ripped some solid fade turns and floaters throughout to finish 3rd, Jessamyn scored a heap of quick noserides and little head dips to land in 2nd, but in the end taking out the women's final (and ripping all day) was Maddie Gross, SHE'S BACK!

After a long day down the beach Surf Club wrapped up with an arvo BBQ and beers back at the shop followed by a screening of the new Jack Coleman film 'Zone Frequency' - an epic film with some of our favourite surfers and an equally amazing soundtrack!

Special thanks go to Stone and Wood Brewing Company, Atmosea and The Bucha of Byron. Thanks also to all who came and helped out through the day!
