Surf Club: May 27

For the first winter surf club of the season we were greeted with super fun 2-3 ft offshore conditions and the best waves we have had this year made for a really fun day of surfing! It also meant a wide mix of boards could be surfed. There were longboards, midlengths, 90's mini mals, twinnies, quads and some shorter single fins too. It was great to watch.
The surfing was fantastic! There were heaps of long and critical hang 10's and 5's from the longboarders, a few tubes from crew on shorter boards and some super critical layback cutbacks from Jack on a little Ellis quad fin and from Dom on his self shaped single fin. There was so much different stuff going on in each heat, it was non-stop entertainment! The final mens was taken out by Kahu after coming close so often it was great to see him have a win. The womens division was taken out by Gabi, who is always ripping in any conditions.
After the finals wrapped up it was back to the shop for a BBQ and beers. Fin (@fin.warren) has been filming each event (in between surfing) and had put together a cool little edit from the first 3 events of the season and screened it for everyone in the shop, which was unreal!
Surf club is a community event, everyone is welcome to join, if you want to come surf and hang out for the day, just roll up! You can pay $10 to participate (as opposed to paying the full annual membership fee), with beers and a BBQ included later that afternoon. We also welcome anyone who wants to play music, display their film work, art or photography at the after event to shoot an email through to info @ wildthingsgallery.com.au.
Thanks to Manuel Berberan (@_berberan) who came down for the first time and shot a couple of heats from the water, he has just moved to Byron and is very handy with the camera if anyone needs his skills email him! manelberberan2@gmail.com
Next surf club will be June 24, save the date! All welcome.
